Today I wanted to share a little information about a group me and my handler help with. The Assistance Dog Council.

Being an Assistance Dog is great, I give my Handler Alison the freedom to go about their day and access places other wise that would be difficult due to their needs and disabilities. Oh, but if it was only that simple. There are over 7000 Assistance Dog teams in the UK all working to cope with a vast number of health conditions and disabilities (all not visible), and yet even with a nation of dog lovers most the general public have a very narrow view or knowledge about us. This can lead to access issues, and disputes that make life difficult for our handlers.
"Lets face it, on their bad days our handlers are ready to cope with conflict or have the composure to correct false information while fighting for their right to access."
That's where the incredible team at the Assistance Dog Council comes in. Yes, I say incredible as me and my handler are the Scottish ADC Advocate and Ambassadors. There small but mighty team help individuals Advocate for access issues wither its a store, education based or even housing with many successful cases. They also help on larger scales talking to service provides and even parliament level changes all to help Assistance Dog teams regardless of the path they walk. (WALK!!! ahem … moving on).

They are a Registered charity (Registered Charity Number: 1187252) and are a small team, if you would like to support them head over to there website to find out how. Or If you and your handler have faced discrimination or access issues and are need of help reach out over on there Facebook or via there website links below: Website : https://www.adcouncil.org.uk/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/assistancedogcouncil
There is a huge stigma surrounding the use of us dogs to mitigate a disability even though we save lives on a daily basis. the ADC have a goal to remove this stigma so thousands of disabled people can access services and public spaces!
